چکیده

Swift heavy ion irradiation was carried out to examine the ionization effects on structural changes of δ-Sc 4 Hf 3 O 12 in which oxygen vacancies are regularly arranged. The specimens were irradiated at room temperature with 92 MeV xenon ions fluences ranging from × 10 1 14 /cm 2 and characterized by grazing (glancing) incidence x-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, scanning microscopy. It found that pristine long-range ordered rhombohedral δ-phase undergoes a reconstructive transformation toward disordered cubic oxygen-deficient fluorite phase promoted effects. In addition, an short-range structure different δ-type formed layer going surface depth ∼4.5 μm specimen fluence . is phase. This change anomalous, because it opposite process usual irradiation-induced change, order-to-disorder transformation. Electron diffraction experiments revealed regions this possess oxygen-excess bixbyite organization (C-type rare-earth oxides) randomly filled anion vacant sites account for stoichiometry average

Structural modification of swift heavy ion irradiated amorphous germanium layers

Swift heavy ion (SHI) irradiation of conventional glasses results in non-saturable plastic flow as a consequence of the ion hammering effect [1]. SHI irradiation of amorphous Si (a-Si) at non-perpendicular incidence also leads to unsaturated plastic flow, which shows a linear dependence on the ion fluence. The positive direction of flow suggests that a liquid phase with density similar to that ...

Thermal annealing study of swift heavy-ion irradiated zirconia

Sintered samples of monoclinic zirconia (α-ZrO2) have been irradiated at room temperature with 6.0-GeV Pb ions in the electronic slowing down regime. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and micro-Raman spectroscopy measurements showed unambiguously that a transition to the ‘metastable’ tetragonal phase (β-ZrO2) occurred at a fluence of 6.5x10 cm for a large electronic stopping power value (≈ 32.5 MeV μm). ...

Structural modification of swift heavy ion irradiated amorphous Ge layers at low temperatures

Recent room-temperature irradiation experiments exposing amorphous germanium (a-Ge) to 185-MeV heavy ions (SHI) at the ANU accelerator facility (Canberra, Australia) revealed strong volume expansions [1]. A detailed study of this effect using various irradiation parameters [2] demonstrates that this swelling is caused by the formation and growth of randomly distributed voids leading to a gradua...

Swift heavy-ion irradiation-induced shape and structural transformation in cobalt nanoparticles

The shape and structural evolution of Co nanoparticles embedded in SiO2 and subjected to swift heavy-ion irradiation have been investigated over a wide energy and fluence range. Modifications of the nanoparticle size and shape were characterized with transmission electron microscopy and small-angle x-ray scattering. Nanoparticles below a threshold diameter remained spherical in shape and progre...
